The urban environment alongside a river as it runs through a city has continued to be a strong source if inspiration for Nick Hedderly, and has been a theme which also runs through his work, whether in paintings of the River Trent in Nottingham or the Thames in London. Paintings of the River Thames include Albert Bridge in West London, paintings of bridges in Central London and images of Canary Wharf as the river heads eastward. The time of day from late afternoon to evening, as the sun sets and people commute home, as the city changes to night - is also especially evocative for the painter. These are journeys in time as well as along a river's course.
